And that is exactly why I don't use or recommend any active (e.g. runs in the background all the time) protection. The "cure" is often worse than the disease! Scott.

I don't recommend "security" software that runs in the background on medium to low-performance PCs as it is simply too much of a burden, resulting in a cure that is worse than the disease. I would uninstall the offending software and allow the system to run unhindered. Scott.

This appears to be just another problem caused by overly agressive anti-malware software, which I've pointed out many times is a "cure" often worse than the disease. Scott.

Most of the time that problem is caused by overly aggressive anti-malware software, a "cure" often worse than the disease. What happens when you disable or uninstall any and all anti-malware software and then install SP2 for Vista? Scott.

Sun was acquired by Oracle in 2010. Many times problems with Java are caused by overly aggressive anti-malware software, a "cure" often worse than the disease. You can get the latest Java SE JRE (Standard Edition Java Runtime Environment) here.
