An amazing new use has been discovered for old hard drives. Well, not the entire drive, just the magnets:

Personally I stick them to the oil filter on my car, which works better than a magnetic drain plug and allows the captured metal shavings to be simply thrown away (or recycled) along with the filter. Scott.

What is this curious looking thing, and what do you use it for?

On the oil filter? That's cool.

I've heard of on the fuel line too (from the snake oil salesmen).

If you click on the link I provided you'll find out what it is. The picture isn't mine, but those are hard drive magnets attached to the package in the photo. <g>

I believe the fuel line magnets are bogus, but using them on oil filters is a legitimate way to add to the filtering capacity. I also use them on transmission pans and differential covers. Scott.

haha my family will be cracking up about the weed part. But might be a good idea for the mechanic down the street. The one that took the hard drive apart to get the pictures off of it.

We use ours as refrigerator magnets. My wife's ID badge from work is heavy and has two pieces of ID and a key on it. She just attaches it by the metal clasp on the badge clip itself and the whole package doesn't go anywhere.
