Just came across this link via a poster on another web site. Seemed like a good service to me for those drives that have bit the dust and you want to get your data off without paying a black land farm to do it...of course if it isn't the PCB board.

Basically you send them your drive info and the PCB board in they transfer the firmware to a working board and send it back out of the goodness of their hearts and oh yes, for a price....

Thanks for posting, that's actually a very reasonable service. For $50 to $60 you can take a fairly inexpensive gamble and possibly get all of your data back. For a drive that has failed but which isn't making any improper mechanical noises, the PCB is very likely the cause of the failure. Scott.
