IBM is showing an example of where the industry will be going in the future, using ultraviolet lithography to create smaller and smaller transistors (7nm in this case). As an industry we are currently at 14nm for production level processors (e.g. Broadwell
) and by projecting the Intel Tick Tock model
into the future I expect Intel will reach 7nm in production by around 2018 to 2020. Those processors will be able to have about four times the number of transistors (and therefore power) as current processors. Scott.
