Working on this for a friend.....

I have already replaced a bad keyboard and a bad CMOS battery, but, there is one more problem that I am working on, that I think might be a motherboard problem, but, wanted to confirm here before I break the bad news.

The laptop boots up without issue, and will run for 8 or 10 minutes at which time the LCD screen goes dark, but, the laptop continues to run.

If I attach an external monitor to it, video continues on the external after the LCD drops out and I am able to continue to use the laptop without issue.

Is this a hardware problem with the video circuitry on the motherboard and would a replacement fixt the issue or am I looking at an LCD fault of some sort?

Thanks.

Glen

Yeah, it sounds like either the inverter or the backlight. Inverters are cheap and easy to replace, so I'd try that first. Scott.

Thanks. I was worried about something on the motherboard.

I have ordered the inverter and will reply back with results.

Thanks!
