I think I'm going to get a HGST Travelstar (TS) 7K750 series HD, due to price advantage over SSD, and not requiring (just desiring) the speed of an SSD. Seagate, others have recommended against, and they aren't as open as I'd like regarding information on their firmware updates. So my question now is what disk cloning software do you recommend to transfer everything from the old TS to the new TS? Thanks.

Gee, that's too bad. I use several myself, *highly* recommend them, and have doubts that the recommendations by the "others" you mention are as qualified. <g>

That has already been covered here. Let me know what you end up using and why. Scott.

True...and http://www.storagereview.com/seagate_momentus_xt_review does indicate the XT has improved its power efficiency. However, it's been out for awhile, and HD technology must have improved in the past year and something months. Do you know if Seagate has any plans to release new XT drives?

I only know what they release to the public, but I'd say due to the success of the original version of these drives, I'd expect newer, larger, faster versions sometime later this year. Scott.

Response from Seagate regarding refresh of Momentus XT line, 25 July 2011:

Quote:
Thank you for sending your Seagate E-mail inquiry.

Increasing the flash memory as well as the overall capacity on the Momentus XT is something Seagate is definitely working on but at present we haven't received specific information such as capacity or release dates.

If you have any additional questions, please let us know.
