Do you know if there is a wireless a/b/g/n card for a ThinkPad T40p. Hopefully it will work with Ubuntu. It probably will if it is an older card since they will have had time to put together a driver for it.

If there isn't an n card would using a g card be faster?

The present card is:

Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04)

The existing card supports 802.11b only. Unfortunately I don't believe there are any internal bgn or abgn cards that will work in that system. You could use a Cardbus bgn adapter, but in my opinion the results (i.e. having n over g) would not be worth the expense or having a bulky card sticking out the side. Instead I would recommend upgrading to an internal abg card, which would be a worthwhile, cost effective, and virtually transparent upgrade over the card you have now. Note that you will need to use a card approved for the T40, else you will receive an 1802 error on boot, and the system will be disabled. I believe the Atheros based cards should be supported by Ubuntu, but you would want to confirm that before committing. Scott.

Is the 1802 "feature" common for all Thinkpads?

Unfortunately yes. Just to be sure I recently replaced the Lenovo approved Intel 6300 in my T520 with a non-Lenovo approved version of the exact same card, and immediately received the 1802 error. Reinstalling the approved card rectified the situation. Scott.
