Hi Sorry this is not the format LAPTOP: ACER ASPIRE NX.RZGAA.002 SNID: 22105840034
I have to return this defective laptop by tomorrow and need to write zeros to the drive urgently.
The problems: mainly pointing devices do not work; VERY slow; etc....
I tried kill disk but the "kill" function cannot be highlighted.
I read about KNOPPIX but don't know anything about it.
ACER is no help.
Is there a utility that you recommend that does this? Thank you

Download the image and burn the bootable disc. Then boot from the disc and use the *Quick Erase* function, which overwrites the entire drive in a single pass. Not only does it do a complete job that way, it only takes a few minutes to an hour or so, and the data will be completely unrecoverable thereafter. Scott.

You don't need WinZip. DBAN is an ISO file, which is an image of a CD-ROM. You would use something like ImgBurn to burn that image to an actual disc (CD-R recommended, but you could use a DVD+-R if that's all you have). Then boot from the disc and use the *Quick Erase* function to overwrite the entire hard drive in a single pass. Scott.

I tried every possible method but it would not boot off the CD (regardless of boot order, etc.) (I also had tried without winZip) I formatted it They picked it up and replaced it.... I need to post a new subject re laptops Thanks!

If it wouldn't boot from the disc then I would suspect the optical drive was defective, which is unfortunately very common. If you formatted the drive using Vista or later then that would have wiped it as well, at least all of the data area.
