Can you get a laptop to use as audio video recorder to record weekly church sermons?
(Something like setting up on the front pew, turning on the recorder, then off after
service).
The reason I ask, I can't go to church (medical reason) my wife wants to "Skype" the service for me. I'm not too into that idea so I thought I would check out the video recorder idea. My wife wants a laptop anyway.

Any suggestions?

Bryan

In most cases rather than using a laptop I'd recommend just using a pocket camcorder to record the services for later viewing. But since your wife wants a new laptop anyway, what you are asking is indeed possible. I exclusively recommend ThinkPad laptops, specifically the T-series, L-series or Edge models, all of which are available with integrated webcams (make sure you choose a sub-model that has one).

You could use Skype via the laptop to see the services live, or you could record and watch them later. Even with a built-in webcam, I'd recommend getting a high-quality external webcam like the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, which will offer a much better picture and sound, plus the ability to easily point the camera in the direction you want (without having to aim the entire laptop), and it includes easy to use recording software as well.

If you are on a budget you can get ThinkPads on a discount via the Lenovo Factory Outlet store. Scott.

I'd just like to add that a 9-cell battery may be required if a lengthy service! Normally a cart option at Lenovo I believe

I thought I would post an update. After looking at the links you provided I think I
have a temporary solution. I saw "Voice Recorders" so I thought that would be a good
place to start. I stopped by Best Buy and purchased a $40.00 recorder. Tomorrow my wife
is going to take it to church and give it a try.

Thanks for the great ideas and when I am ready to take it further I have the laptop
information you gave me.

That sounds like an excellent idea, much less expensive and more efficient. let me know how it works out, Scott.

Scott,

Sunday, my wife Denise took the voice recorder to church and recorded the service. I have not listened to the whole recording yet but what I have heard it sounds good. I think this recorder is a big hit with Denise and should keep me out of Skype conversations for a while.
