So I've got a Thinkpad R500 that upon startup does nothing once it gets to the Thinkpad splash screen, it just stays there. I removed the battery, optical drive, hard drive and memory and it still just stops there. I tried both memory sticks separately in each slot and still nothing. There's no access to the BIOS or anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

Keep those kids away from the USB ports! <g> Scott.

PS: The physical design of the standard USB port is incredibly bad, especially for something so widely used. It is not properly keyed such that it easily allows for upside-down connection attempts, which often results in connector damage.

I like the USB-B male connector into the Ethernet port, myself. Hey, they feel the same when you are working under a desk, feeling for the port on the back. It fits marvelously! If only it worked marvelously, or the Ethernet port worked at all.

Mike, I wonder if you were able to straighten the pins out, or I wonder if that port is on a (replaceable) daughter-board inside the Laptop?

Ask and ye shall receive.

Of course, it is not backward compatible with any prior standard. . .

and we really haven't designed it yet but rest assured it is more than vaporware. And we will release it a week before USB4.

Bent pins so they weren't shorting out and computer works fine. a piece of electrical tape over that port to block usage and hopefully it's "fixed"
