Is there much risk that a new USB floppy disk drive won't work properly with Linux (it happens it would be be on a laptop)? USB itself is supported by the OS or firmware; I use it for flash drives. I successfully read from a borrowed LaCie USB FDD under Porteus Linux (probably version 1.1). I found a retailer, usually trustworthy, selling a USB FDD with a Mitsumi chipset but without stating a brand for the whole drive (
