My Dad's 2005 Sony VGN-A690 VAIO laptop's keyboard is acting up. He'll get several keys that type other characters in place of the ones he's typing.
I went through Sony's troubleshooting of the keyboard, and rather than buy an $80 keyboard for an obsolete laptop, can he bypass the laptop keyboard temporarily using a USB keyboard until he gets his new laptop in a couple of weeks? Does he just plug-n-play with the temp USB keyboard, or does he have to disable the laptop keyboard being going with the external keyboard? Thanks for your input...

You should be able to simply plug in a USB keyboard and (once the drivers are automatically installed) start using it. It will work simultaneously with the original just like when using a USB mouse in concert with the internal pointing device. Scott.
