The SysRq key normally does nothing, so it appears to be working perfectly. <g> Quote: I also would like to know if I should install these software updates on this laptop too here is a screen shot. I would however install the Intel Chipset support and Win7 Updates. Scott.

I'd probably install the display and WLAN drivers but not the password manager. Scott.

Solution
Instructions on how to uninstall Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport adapters from the Device Manager:
Download the Intel Wireless LAN software file for your system from Lenovo eSupport download site and extract the file onto your system. Run the Intel WLAN software installer using autorun.exe or setup.exe. Select “modify install”. Uncheck “Intel My WiFi Technology”, then click Next. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the modify installation. After installation is completed, one Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter remains in the Device Manager as expected. Open a command prompt as an administrator. Type the command “netsh wlan set host mode=disallow” and press Enter. The other Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport adapter disappears from the Device Manager. Restart Windows.
In the photo

I just want to make sure I download the right one and able to uninstall those wifi miniport

You pick the latest driver for your specific WiFi adapter and OS. Most likely that is the 2nd one in the list, check the readme file to be sure. Scott.

Quote: If I wasn't going to use that functionality I might uninstall the virtual adapters: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht081547Is there a reason that you would want to uninstall the virtual adapters. right now I have the wireless shut off on my T420 laptop computer. I'm use hardware Ethernet with DSL its faster then wireless internet i think. Yeah I know cable internet is faster in some ways but in someways the DSL is faster because on cable internet access you have your next door people on and that would slow down the speed of the internet too and then can also snoop on what you are doing on less some thing have change with that. But I like DSL it does the job for me. As far as the virtual adapters it really don't bother me but I just want to know why would you uninstall them for are they really that bad. And one more thing I found out that was not working right was the built in microphone. so I update the Audio drivers and that got it took work. So If anyone of you guys out there have any problems with the Lenovo thinkpad laptop computer T420 come here and me and scott will walk you though it. read what Scott help me with and this computer is now faster then when I first got it speed things up and clear things up too. Thanks SPIDERMAN.

spiderman wrote: Is there a reason that you would want to uninstall the virtual adapters. You might want to uninstall them if you don't want to create a PAN (Personal Area Network) and use your laptop as a hotspot for other devices to connect to (a potential security risk). If your wireless network adapter is off then this is not an issue. Scott.
