Hello,

On a laptop I am running when I look at the System Properties general tab (see attached) I sometimes see two quite different CPU speed settings on the second and third line from the bottom. I was wondering if this has anything to do with the processor slowing down to save power? and if so why is it doing it when the laptop is plugged in? Also just curious, what does Physical Address Extension refer to?

Yes, that is due to EIST (Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology), which I covered here: viewtopic.php?p=2243#p2243

Note that EIST works anytime the processor throttling is set to "adaptive", regardless of whether it is on AC or battery power.

I covered that here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=242
