You can get certified used ThinkPads directly from IBM: http://www-132.ibm.com/content/search/u ... uters.html

This is an excellent way to get ThinkPad laptops for very little cost. I recommend the R-series models for most applications, as they generally offer the best overall value. Scott.

Thanks for the tip, that is a good discount indeed!

However, for those reading this after today, you can still get the same (or possibly even better) deal, or one very close to it. Here's how:

Whenever you are ordering something and you see a place to enter a promo or coupon code, that obviously means such codes must exist somewhere. Why wait to have them find you or to discover them by accident, when you can find them right on the spot at any time?

Bottom line: When ordering ANYTHING online, if you see a promo/coupon code entry box when you are placing the order, search for those codes on the spot, either while placing the order, or just before. You will almost always find at least a 10% to 15% (and sometimes up to 25% or more) discount code you can use on the spot.

For example, if you were ordering a ThinkPad system, you would use a search like this: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Th ... oupon+code

This tip (i.e. using search) effectively arms you with what might be called a "Universal Coupon Code" you can whip out and use at any time. <g> Scott.

Although it is a ThinkPad, I'm not real big on the SL series because it doesn't support a *real* dock or port replicator, doesn't have the ThinkLight (keyboard light), and doesn't have an UltraBay (swappable bay devices). I'd normally recommend the R-series or T-series instead, but if those features are not necessary, then the SL could be a good deal. Scott.
