Hey Scott, long time.
I've got a question. I've a driver signature issue, that since the driver signature is for my wireless card, if I don't disable the enforce driver signature in the beginning of Windows boot, the Wireless function on my Windows 7 professional sp1 sony viao laptop disappears and the exclamation sign appears on my adapter, and the Wireless assistant (Wifi miniport) disappears. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the driver to the same effect (which, through my research was supposed to fix said issue).
I'm at a loss on how to fix, and editing the registry would prevent the issue, it would also open me system up to a security risk.
Adapter: Atheros AR9287 Wireless Network Adapter: Error code 52 appears when examining this driver.
This disappears: Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

When did this behavior start and what did you change right before it happened? I always make sure I get my drivers either direct from the hardware mfr. or from a known-good site. If you believe the drivers are not modified from the original mfr. then you could disable the signature enforcement with no negative repercussions. Scott.

It seemed to occur after a Windows update each time. I would go step by step through the updates to confirm which update could be the cause and thought I'd found it, but after other updates the issue would return. Should I edit the registry then?

If you trust the driver that's what I would do. Scott.

I'll give it a try.

Looks good to me! Microsoft has been in an out of control swan dive for a long time now. Did you see what they just did to Skype? It would be funnier if it weren't so sad. Scott.

Haven't heard yet. Are They still supporting it or did they fold it into another function?

Scott, should we stop using Skype? If so, what are some viable alternatives?

Unfortunately I'm still using Skype because all my contacts use it. If you use any Skype alternatives let us know the pros and cons compared to Skype. Scott.

I use Skype online within my Outlook webmail. You can still set it to away or invisible.
