The easiest way to do that is with a product like Acronis True Image. The basic steps are as follows:

  • Install Acronis True Image.
  • Use True Image to create an Acronis Secure Zone (hidden partition).
  • Use True Image to install the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (stand-alone bootable version of True Image).
  • Use True Image to backup your system partition to the Acronis Secure Zone.

The Acronis Startup Recovery Manager writes a custom MBR (Master Boot Record) which provides the option to: "Press F11 for Acronis Startup Recovery Manager", which runs a stand-alone bootable version of True Image. If your system partition is ever corrupted, you can use that to boot and run True Image, then from there you can restore the backup you made in the Secure Zone (hidden partition) to your system partition. For more information, see the Acronis True Image 2010 User Guide. Scott.
