Scott, can you possibly verify whether or not this motherboard is compatible with Windows 98 Second Edition? I've been thinking about uprgrading a future Win 98 SE installation to Windows XP Home Edition.

If you run Win98 in a Virtual PC, then the answer is yes. If you mean natively, then I believe the answer is no. I say "believe" because the motherboard mfr. doesn't offer Win98 drivers, but it still may be possible by finding drivers from the device mfrs. directly. I couldn't say for sure either way without trying it myself. In any case, the best way to run older OS like Win98 on newer systems is in a Virtual PC. Scott.

In my case, I would like to install Windows 98 Second Edition on a hard drive solely to have the ability to subsequently install the Upgrade version of Windows XP Home Edition.

Installing Win98 is completely unnecessary (and as I stated, a native install probably won't work in your case anyway). You can use an upgrade version to do a clean install, in that case you will need to insert the original Win98 CD when requested during the install for verification. Scott.
