I have created a windows 7 install flash drive and it worked. Used cmd prompt to use diskpart, assign, etc commands and then copied the CD to the flash drive. The netbook installation worked flawlessly.

I have researched and found Wintoflash and Novi Corp methods but I have been unable to get the XP install started. One method NTLDR was missing, others just did nothing, and various iterations of the with same bad result.

Have you created or used a flash drive to install XP and how did you do it?

I have experimented with several methods of installing XP from flash drives. Unfortunately while generally successful, in some cases there can be issues with performance and/or compatibility, making the results not nearly as universally fast or applicable as a bootable optical disc. If you want to experiment yourself, I recommend the following tools/methods:

From those links you'll find the information and resources needed to create the bootable USB installers. Let me know which tools/methods you end up using, and how well they work. Scott.

I tried it recently with XP, and found it to be slower than using a DVD, still great tool, and maybe more useful in the future with faster pen drives and USB3

I used the WinSetupFromUSB and a WinInstallCD XP SP2 to successfully create a XP USB drive and installed XP using it.

The instruction set from http://myeeeguides.wordpress.com/2008/1 ... ash-drive/ a good resource but did not have the latest built-in routines described. The info boxes on WinSetupFromUSB helped.

The process works. Thanks to the Forum Team for their input and advice.
