As far as Windows XP is concerned, which is better: system standby or hibernation?

Standby is quicker yet more vulnerable to Power outages, if used on a laptop be sure it will go to hibernate mode before the battery quits

Hibernate is good for extended off times :)

Some motherboards fail on Standby, so I often use Hibernate for them.
