it tells me when I try to burn files to the cd-r that there is not files to be burn. I try 3 other cds and no luck What could be the cause because I'm trying to copy about 435 files to a cd and it won't let me I have windows vista basic. One thing I'm thinking is that windows might have became unstable which I hope not or because I don't have autorun enable.
I'm just asking to see if there something else is the cause is.
just to add one more thing
I've tried all the following in explorer in order to copy the file to a CD:
- Selecting the file and clicking the 'burn' button. Nothing happens - Dragging and dropping the file on CD drive in explorer. Nothing happens - Selecting the file, write clicking on the CD drive and selecting 'burn to disc'. This just generates a popup saying 'there are no files to burn'.

I recommend using ImgBurn to write/burn optical discs. What happens when you use that software? Scott.

I don't recommend using Windows built-in burning software, but if you want to then first make sure it is enabled (some 3rd party burning software disables it upon installation). Once you are sure it is enabled you can burn a CD or DVD using one of the supported formats. Scott.

I have search before I posted on here but nothing tells me how to fix this. I'm not sure where to check to see if it is enable or disable at. I do know that I have the burn button in windows explorer.
And the roxio creator de was perinstall on this computer. Who gave the right to have roxio creator de to disable the windows built in burner software in the first place. What well happen if I uninstall the roxio creator de will that enable the windows built in burner again.
There bunch of miss leanding information. Scott I can send you a copy of the reg and you could look.

You'll find instructions to manually enable or disble CD burning here. That page even has a downloadable zip file containing .reg files that will enable or disable CD burning by simply clicking on them and allowing the changes to your registry. Scott.

Unfortunately that means the problem is due to some other corruption in the system. Consider this a blessing in disguise as I recommend avoiding the built-in disc burning capabilties anyway. I would instead use ImgBurn or the Roxio software you already have installed. Scott.

well I guess i'll just have to do a clean install of windows. what a pain that would be. Why don't you recommend using Windows built-in burning software. There other things that are not working right too. and that backing up the reg is a joke it don't work. when I try to restore the reg it come up with an error forgot that it said. This werid stuff started when I download crome and install that and install IE9 then things got hairy there. This computer had a video card replace about a year ago and there could be the wrong video driver but when I reinstall windows i'll be downloading all the drivers from dell website and not from the nvida website. I no way in H*** download any drivers from winodws updates the only time I would do that if it is your computer <g> Maybe that one virus i had on it maybe have cause the windows to be come unstable. i'll post the outcome later... but what a mess. So which one do you like better windows me windows vista windows 7 or windows 8 which one would you install windows me or winodws 8. I think these two o/s sucks.

Quote: Why don't you recommend using Windows built-in burning software. Because it is so clumsy and limited compared even to free alternatives like ImgBurn. Scott.

Scott, do you currently recommend any other burning software besides ImgBurn? It's my understanding that there hasn't been a new version of ImgBurn since June 2013.

There are good alternatives as FatGuy suggests, but I do still use and recommend ImgBurn. Scott.
