I recently got a new microphone that plugs into a microphone jack. How do I set it up using Windows XP w/ SP3? When I open Speech in Control Panel, I don't see a Speech Recognition tab.

That's normal behavior from what I've seen. To verify your microphone is working properly, open the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties in the Control Panel, then select the Voice tab and make sure the device you have your microphone plugged into is shown under Voice Recording. Then click the Test Hardware button and follow the prompts to test the mic. and speakers and adjust the levels.

Another way to check would be in the Start menu to select Programs; Accessories; Entertainment and open the Sound Recorder program. Then click the record button and see if you can make a recording. Scott.
