I have not tested avast! in some time now so I cannot offer an opinion. The only anti-malware software I currently recommend are Malwarebytes Free, Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit, and Microsoft Security Essentials. Scott.

Scott, would you recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit BETA in this day and age? It's free, right?

Um, can Leo Laporte somehow be convinced that using Malwarebytes is worthwhile? :roll:

Why would you want to convince him of that. I agree with the guy. Although I do run Antivirus and Antispyware on my system. You could say it's a character flaw I have though. Since I'm used to doing and have so for years, I just continue to do so. Plus I like the "false sense of security" that I get from it. The A/V I use isn't based on definition updates though....

LOL you still recommend malwarebytes after that bug about two wees ago lol...... That locks up people computers after the update.... and they don't have any phone tech support. hmmm....

I only recommend Malwarebytes Free, which does not run in the background. I would not expect phone support on any free product. Scott.

I mean in the paid version of malwarebytes They do not have a phone tech support number.
