When I ran the Sfc /scannow command from the cmd.

I get this and how would i go about to repair the corrupt files without reinstalling the o/s

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6002]
C:\>sfc /scannow
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 78% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

When I try to open the CBS.log I get access denied. How ever I found another way to open that cbs.log file Scott if you want me to post it on here I can but its very long. and does show where the errors are but i'm not sure on how to go about fixing it without reinstall the windows vista.

I have windows vista basic with sp2. its a dell inspiron E1505 model.

I think I found out what might be corrupt. But how would I go about fixing it I don't have a windows vista basic cd. The windows disk that came from dell. So where do I go from here please read the follow line. I don't know if anyone else know but for scott maybe?

2014-08-06 02:23:08, Info CSI 00000085 [SR] Cannot verify component files for c7107705ccb0b1cd8c87587f9e03fa88, Version = 6.0.6001.22665, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_INTEL (0), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type neutral, TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral, manifest may be damaged (TRUE)

To me it looks like that processor architecture intel cpu might be going bad but not sure and what is a manifest means. I did a google search on the above line.

thanks. I would like to get this fix maybe this is why I can't burn cd's in windows explorer.

and getting other errors messages too.

I have check the regist and it came up clean.
any help would be nice thanks.

The CBS.log file contains entries from SFC as well as the the Windows Modules Installer service. You can use the following instructions to separate the SFC entries from anything else: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228

In general your best options would be to perform either a repair installation or a full reinstall from scratch. You can see the instructions for doing a repair installation here: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236 ... vista.html

You will need a Vista install disc to perform the repair installation, unfortunately I don't know of any fully legal place you can currently download one. You can however purchase legal Vista install DVDs on eBay. Finally, note that Dell normally provides one set of replacement recovery media for free, so I would try that option first: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/ ... kupcd_form

Scott.
