Scott, I've been having trouble installing updates for Windows 7 Professional after doing clean installations of the operating system. It too often seems to take forever for the Windows Update function to find updates, and I am clearly not alone in having the problem. There have been a couple times where 152 updates for my OS were found, but installing at least the vast majority of those updates went awry after I restarted the desktop PC with the Windows 7 installation. Scott, do you know of a particularly efficient way to install updates for Windows 7 at the present time?

The best way to install updates on a new OS installation is to integrate them into the install media: https://www.raymond.cc/blog/create-an-i ... tall-disc/

Installing hundreds of updates via Windows or Microsoft Update can take a while and require many restarts during the process. Scott.

Scott, I've used Windows Updates Downloader and NTLite to create a Windows 7 Professional installation disc. A whole bunch of security-related patches were integrated, but Internet Explorer 11 was curiously not. I used the custom installation disc for my present installation of Windows 7 Pro on my usual desktop PC. When I try to install Internet Explorer 11, however, the Internext Explorer 11 Setup utility ceases to work. Below is the problem signature:

Scott, can you help me understand what's going on? Be glad that I used a DVD-RW for my custom installation disc.

Unfortunately I don't support NTLite, for any questions about that I recommend you seek support from the author. Scott.

Well, Scott, can you interpret the problem signature for me?

Does the IE install work on a clean Windows 7 load? If so then the problem would appear to be related to your NTLite based installation. In that case I recommend contacting NTLite for support. Let me know what you find. Scott.

With the installation that was created with my custom disc, I was able to install Internet Explorer 11 and various other things via Windows Update.

For people who choose to install Windows 7 Pro w/ SP1 using an installation disc supplied by Microsoft as opposed to a custom-built installation disc, I found some Microsoft-related pages that essentially must be read. Check out the following links:
