Scott, do you still believe that Windows Firewall is all you need?. Are there alternatives available that are "better"?. It's just that my internet has been really slow lately on both PCs connected. I tried using commando for about 5 minutes and things went faster. However, that program is too bloated and requires too much of my attention. I uninstalled and now the internet seems just as fast as when I installed it. Could it have blocked some "intrusion"?. Sorry Scott, I just don't know much about firewalls as far as any detail.

We need more info on your computers

What version of windows do you have?
what is the hardware
how much ram do you have install.

I would get VIPRE 2017 Lifetime Security Suite
it will have a Antivirus and firewall built in.

Another thing you can't have to firewalls running at the same time.

hope this help.

It seems that Scott is slipping or to busy with his new book.
or playing to many video games lol <G>

If you are running a computer behind a router on a private network then you have a hardware firewall. In that case no additional software firewall is necessary. If you are using a computer on a public wireless network then I would consider a software firewall a necessity. When a software firewall is needed I recommend the Windows Firewall, I've seen far too many problems caused by overly restrictive or bloated 3rd party firewalls. Scott.

Thanks Scott. I've just been a little overly paranoid lately about security. Just watching the news with all the hacked systems. I think Home Depot, Shaw's, Target and now something about a recommendation to put tape over your camera on your laptop. This is just my regular Desktop PC that I built back in 2009. I made a thread about it back then.
