Scott, I've definitely been to this page. Unfortunately, I've run the Windows Update stuff for Windows Vista for hours on end. It still doesn't have the ransomware patch (namely update MS17-010). Is there a relatively quick way to obtain and install the patch? Can I possibly install the patch manually?

No offense, Scott, but I've already gone to that URL that you mentioned. I have the .msu file on the desktop of the PC with the Windows Vista installation, but whenever I double-click on it, I end up with the Windows Update Standalone Installer. It has been saying "Searching for updates..." for, like, 12-13 hours or so now. Can the .msu file be unpacked or whatever?
To be honest, I have felt particularly pressured do to this situation to remove the traditional HDD with the Windows Vista installation from the system and replace it with a SSD that will have the 32-bit version of Windows 7 Professional installed on it. I have been thinking about doing this for quite a while now, but this aggravating episode...

Normally you would just double-click on the file and Wusa.exe (Windows Update Standalone Installer) would automatically run, extract the updates and install them. If that isn't happening you can see information on how to manually perform the process here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... in-windows

I've read the article. Did you specifically have the "/extract" thing in mind, Scott? Unfortunately, the wusa.exe thing for the Windows Vista Home Premium installation on my parents' desktop PC does not have the "/extract" thing. Would I have to use Software Explorer in Windows Defender?

Actually I was thinking of the "expand" command as described in the article. Scott.
