>Question: What about when System Restore DOESN'T work? I have had a lot of
cases where it would refuse to restore to any system point. In your next
edition could you cover that? Like why that happens, how to avoid that from
happening, etc.? thanks! Lynda Brewer (again)
When System Restore fails, I recommend you turn it off (which clears all
previously saved Restore Points), then back on again, after which System
Restore should then be functional.
The best way to avoid problems with System Restore is to understand its
limitations. For example, I recommend only restoring the last 1 or 2 most
recently saved Restore Points. Trying to restore saved points older than that
should be avoided as many otherwise valid changes would be undone,
potentially generating more problems than solutions. Note that instead of
turning System Restore off/on to clear out all Restore Points, you can use
the Disk Cleanup tool to remove all Restore Points except the most recent
one. Scott.
