We have a Dell Optiplex 745, dual-core 3.4 GHZ machine, that when promoted to domain controller begins giving trouble. We have run the standard Dell diagnostics, and found nothing wrong with the hardware. The server sometimes would not open Internet Explorer, control panel, ftp would not work, etc. However, if we demoted the server, the problems remained. At this point, the server has been re-installed and is ok, but has not been promoted to domain controller yet. Do you know of a way to fix this?

If the problem reoccurs then I'd recommend reloading the OS from scratch. Scott.

Scott,
We have loaded the OS 3 times and are experiencing the same issue. Could this be an issue with the dual-core chip? Is there a way to run the computer without using dual-core capabilities?

You can disable the 2nd core in the BIOS Setup, but I would be very surprised if that did anything except slow the system down. Let me know if it works out otherwise. Scott.
