You can use Bluetooth connections the same as cabled connections. In fact Bluetooth is primarily designed as a cable replacement technology for what would normally be a USB connection between your PC and devices such as cellphones, PDAa, printers, headsets, keyboards/mice, etc.
Bluetooth is *not* a replacement or substitute for WiFi, and has no relation to 802.11abgn wireless (WiFi) network connections.
To prevent hacking, always pair your PC with devices in a private location, and turn off discoverability (uncheck "Let other Bluetooth devices discover this computer"). Communications between your PC and paired devices are fully encrypted and secured.
