Hi Scott,

What Make, Model and Speed of SIM-Card HSDPA USB Modem, do you recommend; probably a higher technology than HSDPA, if you're aware of any?

Thanks,

-- Kit

Normally you choose the service provider, then choose among the modems that work with that provider. I have no specific recommendations, as it would depend entirely on your specific location and what is available at the time. Let me know what you choose, and why. Scott.

Thanks Scott,

Brilliant response.

My ISP launched a company customized Huawei E220 USB Modem with 3G features that looks somewhat like this, compatible with GPRS. I've used such modem for testing purposes and noted 4 things:

#1. Great Speed
#2. No *Automated Internet Disconnections*
#3. Faster Upload and Download speeds
#4. Minimal *Internet Explorer Cannot display the webpage*

I've to say, that's way better than GPRS and/or GPRS/EDGE modems.

I think some companies do a Mini-PCI card adaptor (I know some laptop's come with HSDPA built in)

Also the "3" network in the UK will this year release a portable Wireless router (Wireless only) so more than one device will be able to connect via the HSDPA network.

I assume a similar device will be released in the States.

Thanks David,

Yes, my Telecom Company is selling customized HSDPA(High Speed Downlink Packet Access) 5.0/5.5 Type II PCMCIA(Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) card modems for notebooks as well, plus GPRS/EDGE card modems. The problem is that GPRS/EDGE (General Packet Radio Service/Enhanced Data GSM Environment) modems and/or PCMCIA cards, have Voice-Over-Data problems is my area (When there're a number of phone calls on the same network as my ISP, the Internet connection disconnects itself automatically). Though HSDPA, works pretty fine.

I've not seen Desktop PCI HSDPA,GPRS/EDGE, though!

Kit,

What company are you using and are you using this as your primary internet connection?

Mike,

Rest assured it's not in Chicago, IL., and I've answered the most important bit - the Products and/or the Service. That sounds very conclusive Mike. <g>

Now, tell me what?

PS: I need to get their acquiescence, for starters <g>

Ok Kit, I understand, you're a secret agent or something. <g>

I won't ask you any other questions that are too "personal"

And since I didn't (and doesn't look like I will) get an answer, I guess that I'll just leave it at that.
