Hello Scott, might be getting a rather over-sized UPS to keep my kit running The UPS in question is a Riello PWP 800 UPSIn the manual (Page 16) the diagram explains how to connect via single phase, alas the accessory box is missing (I have asked vendor) Now can I get three Live plugs and plug them into the three sockets? find enclosed a diagram of what I am thinking, I want to use three standard UK wall mains plugs to give one Live each and share the Neutral/ground

I can't make sense out of what you are asking. If you want to power multiple devices I recommend attaching a power strip to the output, then plug any items you want protected into the strip. Other than that, you might want to call an electrician. <g> Scott.

Sorry Scott, I am concerned with how to power the UPS (The output phase is just wiring!)
Those plugs detailed are how I plan to power the thing!
I want to use three Mains wall plugs (Utility supply Mains wall sockets) to power the UPS, each Mains outlet supplying one Live connection, the Earth and Neutral shared over the three plugs.

Don't you just plug it into the wall?. Or is it somehow how different in your country David?. I have two UPS'es and I just plug them into the AC wall socket.

Hi David. Looking at the manual you listed, on pg 16 it appears that single phase input is covered in fig 2 at the top of the page. Your diagram looks like it's taken from fig 3 (for 3 phase input). Are you actually wanting 3 phase input and ouput, or are you just trying to draw extra power by connecting to 3 mains sockets. You may be interested in the following Italian translations for fig 1 <g>! ponticello = bridgeuscita (carico) = output (charge)ingresso (rete) = entrance (grid [as in electricity national grid presumably])

I want to connect it single phase, the thing is the device can draw upto 41Amps on single phase! Hence why I want to connect to three Mains plugs (13 amp max fuse each) (think of some servers having multi PSU's) So the UPS would be connected to grid via three Mains (utility) wall plugs for the input, to share the load, so the fuses in the plugs won't blow! when I install it at home, I will tap directly onto the 30A domestic Mains and if that fails, I will probably either get 3-phase, or get a spark in (Electrician) Output is not a problem, it has IEC connectors

Small update Went back today and successfully got it plugged in via those three normal 13A Domestic plugs!!! (Leap of faith involving 240VAC Mains! Anyway I'm still here and not in Barbados surrounded by girls and gin so must have survived! Ok so now the UPS will start, yet goes into "Remote By-Pass mode, on Page 24 of the PWP 800 PDF it mentions connecting pins 7 to 15(Gnd) will put the UPS into Remote By-Pass mode, as you can guess there is no connector between those so that should not apply.

even if the earth/ground wire is not conected to the backbox a "socket tester" will show the presence of earth/ground and the earth/ground is conected to the screw conections as part of the socket manufacture, therefore touching the metal screws holding the socket after testing will earth you.
quick tip from karl david " not realeted to post sorry "

Thanks Karl, I love our UK plugs with earth/ground "built-in"
Scott do houses in the US come with earth/ground "built in" or do people have to wire it themselves?

Older houses usually have 2-pole 2-wire NEMA 1-15R receptacles, while most built after 1965 include 2-pole 3-wire grounded outlets with NEMA 5-15R or 5-20R receptacles.

Thanks Scott, when I win the lottery and can afford to move to say Oregon Anyway I decided to buy the thing today, the remote bypass issues is still there yet I only paid £50, so a good toy whatever happens! AFAIK the batts are at least charging, and shorting pins 15-2/8 does make a response, so still hopeful that it is a config problem and not a failure. Wish me luck, it's also 'ruddy heavy!

Well....
I managed to get past the Remote Bypass Control "error" by erm shorting a connection I found (I assume this is not in the missing manual!) with the tip of a screwdriver!
So it's late here and I got lots of other messages etc, including a (reassuring?) fade in the lights as it went into "on-line" status!
There seems to be other problems with the unit, as I got a lock on the V-Booster (Sounds like Thunderbirds lol)
It's currently in the next mode down, cant remember which, and is charging the batts (you can hear the inverter working now)
More news tomorrow, for now sleep, unless the 'leccy board come knocking of course!
