Hello
Is there any real advantage to having two or more network cards in a server when we only have one modem/router accessing the internet.

I want to be able to attach pcs to the server to access the internet. But if the pcs have viruses I am thinking that if I configure the second network card differently in the server some how then maybe if the pcs have viruses they don't cross the network.

The location of the modem/router would not be physically accessible to the pc.
I could plug the pc into a switch but maybe its more beneficial to use a spare network card in the server as dedicated for the purpose.
Thanks

The only advantage might be if one of them would fail then the other would continue to provide access. There would be no advantage in a malware situation. Scott.

I want to upload some large files to the internet so I plugged in the second network card to the modem router and I want the internet to access the internet on this second network card. It all works fine but how do I know whether number 2 network card is accessing the internet. I can't disable the first one to find out because its in use.
Thanks

When multiple network cards are installed, they will be used by assigned priority only one at a time. Your #2 card will be used if and when your #1 card fails to connect. Scott.
