Hi Scott,
I tried to establish a network connnection on a Windows Vista based laptop using a RJ-45 port connection. Though the RJ-45 port connection LEDs were ON, the little Network Connection icon in the Notification Area showed that there was not connection. Putting a RJ-45 plug in a Windows XP pro based computer, the connection could be detected automatically!
I went to Device Manager and "Ethernet Controller", had a yellow Exclamation Point. Probably, its "Ethernet Controller" drivers missing. If that is the problem. How can I get those drivers? Can they be found on a Windows Vista CD that came with the Laptop?

Hi Kit,
From what you have said, it looks like the correct drivers are missing.
Did the laptop come with Windiws Vista and if it did then the drivers for the network adapter will be on the restore/recovery DVD but depending on the brand of the laptop, it may also have come with a seperate driver CD.
If Windows Vista is supported by the laptop manufacturer with the model you have, you should be able to download the Windows Vista drivers for the network adapter from the laptop manufacturers website. If that is the case, be sure you download the correct driver be it 32-bit or 64-bit for Windows Vista.
If Windows Vista drivers for the network card are not available from the laptop manufacturers website and you know the exact make and model of the network adapter in the laptop, you might be able to download Windows Vista drivers from whoever makes the network adapter.
Windows Update may also have the correct drivers if you can connect wirelessly with that laptop and do a Windows Update and see if it shows any hardware updates.
Regards,
Rod
