I'm wondering what is the best brand switch to get. I don't care for linksys.
What should I look for in a switch.

My Dsl modem qwest say that has a built in router. My dsl modem is a GT701.
So if it has a built in router do I still need to get both the router and the switch at the sametime or can I just only get the switch.

If you already have a router, then to expand your network all you need are one or more switches. I haven't really tested different brands of switches, so I can't really recommend what might be the *best*. Besides, switches have become a fairly generic commodity item, at least when you're talking about the type for SOHO (Small Office Home Office) networks. My only real recommendation is for switches supporting gigabit Ethernet, stay away from those offering only 100Mbit speeds. Scott.

I don't have an gigabit ethernet port on my notebook computer nor my desktop.
but the above link there shows the one I was thinking about getting.

like I said before the dsl modem from qwest said it has a built in router in it.

Well the gigabit switch work with an 10/100 Ethernet card.

Yes, gigabit switches are backward compatible with 10/100 network cards.
