Scott, I've noticed you avoid discussing Windows 10, and recommend installing Windows 7. would you care to explain your objections to Windows 10?

Scott, Thanks for your reply with all the pertinent posts. I am not a Tech, just an octogenarian tinkerer, so I downloaded W10 before the deadline onto an HP Elitebook 2540p with Windows 7 professional 64bit. After a bit of upgrading it is now running as fast as with W7, and I am satisfied with it. One thing I did overlook in your subsequent post was your statement about using Windows 10 with 'Classic Shell' added. I will look in to that and probably try it.
I did make a clone of the Windows 7 OS before the W10 download in the HP EB 2540P. This was Just in Case I had problems, or didn't care for W10. Your Forum is extremely helpful. WFL

Thanks Walt. You are wise to keep your options open by making a clone of Win7. Let me know what you think if you try the Classic Shell. Scott.

Scott, what's wrong with not having Classic Shell for a PC with a Windows 10 installation?
